MAC SCREENSHOT WORKFLOW

How to organize screenshots on Mac

Choose one place for screenshots, keep the shortcuts you already use, and make older captures easier to find.

Short answer

Set macOS Screenshot to save captures in one folder. A screenshot library such as SnapRecall can watch that folder and organize captures so you can browse and find them later.

Mac screenshots are quick to take; the hard part is remembering where a useful capture went. A simple workflow has two parts: send new screenshots to a predictable folder, then use a library to organize and retrieve them.

1. Choose a screenshot folder

Create or choose a folder where you want your screenshot library to live. If you use SnapRecall, choose that folder as the library location in the app. The library stays under your control, and the app works with the folder you selected.

2. Change where macOS saves screenshots

Press Shift–Command–5 to open Screenshot, then choose Options → Save to → Other Location and select your folder. macOS screenshots otherwise save to the Desktop by default. This changes the save location; it does not replace the screenshot shortcuts.

3. Browse and find captures later

SnapRecall watches the library folder you choose and organizes incoming captures. Browse by date, search your library, or group related screenshots with tags and collections. Add annotations when a screenshot needs explanation; sharing an annotated copy leaves the original intact.

4. Add on-device search when you want it

Local AI features are optional. After you confirm a model download, SnapRecall can use on-device analysis to help describe, tag, and search screenshot content. Your screenshots are not uploaded for that analysis.
